Join whiskey enthusiast, collector and now whiskey maker Bob Aris (Judge Parent '27, '28, '29) to enjoy a flight of four exceptional American whiskies from a cross-section of the oldest and most recognized Kentucky heritage distilleries in a guided tasting. Two 'surprise pours' follow the flight, and the event concludes after participants get to 'thieve whiskey straight from the barrel' from one of two Japanese or Hungarian oak finishing casks.
Your tasting flight begins with Whiskey Advocate's #1 Whiskey of 2025, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Rye, Batch A925 - the first ever release of a new barrel proof rye from legendary distillery Heaven Hill. A "Kentucky Style Rye" with a mashbill of just 51% rye, this whiskey is aged 12 years and is bottled as cask strength of 108 proof.
Your second pour is another highly awarded and rare whiskey, Maker's Mark's 2025 Cellar Aged Bourbon. This is the third annual Cellar Aged expression from Maker's Mark. It begins with fully-matured barrels of Maker's Mark aged in traditional bourbon warehouses. Then the matured barrels are moved to a limestone cellar to age further. This 2025 release blends 11 year-old (74%), 13 year-old (10%), and 14 year-old (16%) bourbons, making this the oldest whiskey ever from Maker's Mark, bottled at 112.9 proof. The nose is like cinnamon toast cereal squares and spicy apple cider.
Your third pour in the flight is an often awarded, perennially sought after and highly-allocated bourbon, the 2023 George T. Stagg Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 15 years and 3 months and bottled at 135 proof. A mainstay of the annual Buffalo Trace "Antique Collection", this bourbon opens with well integrated aged oak notes that are amazingly balanced given the bourbon’s high proof.
The fourth pour in the flight is the legendary 2014 Booker's 25th Anniversary Edition from the James A. Beam Distillery. Booker's 25th is a limited release that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first commercial bottling of Booker's. For this special release the bourbon was extra aged, maturing for 10+ years, and was bottled at 130.8 proof.
Following the flight of four Kentucky 'unicorns' you'll be treated to two "surprise pours" from Bob's collection of over 1,000 whiskies and from his brand's inventory of barrel strength samples. Redbreast? Macallan? Pappy? Well, it will be a worthy surprise!
Finally participants will enjoy the unique experience of thieving whiskey 'straight from the barrel' from either a Mizunara Oak or Hungarian Oak cask that are extra aging carefully crafted blends of straight bourbon and straight rye whiskies.
A tasting evening like no other, the event will be in a relaxed format in the Aris home in Draper. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. Please enjoy responsibly and have a ride or take an Uber/Lyft from the event. Participants must be at least 21 years old.
